The Clockmakers

The Ticking Sound

You respectfully deny Kairos’ invitation, claiming you would prefer to travel alone for now. He appears slightly angry but says he accepts your decision. Abruptly, Kairos vanishes, leaving you alone in the dimly lit corridor. For a second, you feel a twinge of regret, but you know you can’t deny the unease you felt around him. Something was off, and as a result, you cannot trust him. After gathering your thoughts, you leave the alcove and continue on toward the loud, ticking noise. The air feels cooler now, and you’re left to wonder where the draft could be coming from. As you continue, the ticking sound grows in intensity immensely, and you find yourself covering your ears. As you begin to get dizzy from the severe noise, you faint.

You feel a hand shaking you and a muffled voice asking if you’re alright. You slowly open your eyes to see three individuals looking worriedly at you. As you grow more aware of your surroundings, you notice a dense canopy of forests above you.

“Where am I,” you ask hazily.

“You’re in Xylian,” one of the voices says.

A hand reaches down to pull you up, and you thank them while looking around further. Outside the forest, through a small opening, you notice a large city comprised of gothic steampunk-style architecture, various mechanics, and an absurd amount of clocks.

All three people who looked out for you offer companionship on your journey in Xylian. While you denied Kairos’ invitation out of mistrust, all three people you see before you helped you in a time of need.

Do you choose Vigil, the architect who helped pull you to your feet?

Do you choose Zee, the kind-looking person who appears on the verge of sleep?

Or do you choose Hope, who introduced herself to you as a Clockmaker and appears intelligent?
