The Clockmakers

The Locked Door

Unwilling to give up, you continue searching the area for the key to the mysterious locked door. You are sure it must be somewhere. You scour the bookshelves again, hoping to find the key or a clue, but you come up empty-handed. All seems hopeless, and you lay on the floor, looking up at the ceiling in despair. At that moment, you see constellations lining the ceiling. At first, you’re unsure where you are meant to look for clues until you notice a single constellation glowing against the painted backdrop of the ceiling. It’s Horologium, the pendulum clock. You notice it points above the doorframe.

Panicking, you search around you until your eyes land on exactly what you need. A footstool. Racing over, you grab the stool and place it beneath the locked door. From this vantage point, you notice an impurity in the wall above the doorway and push it inwards. This reveals a small hidden door with a key to your joyous surprise. The key is made of bronze, with the top designed to look like a gear inside a clock. Quickly, you place the key inside the keyhole and turn the door.

As you step through the doorway, you are greeted by ticking clocks. All around you are clocks and gears, forming a large city. Various metal types are placed together as pipes line the buildings, bringing about an industrial, gothic steampunk architecture style. As you step out from the dark alcove you were in, you are greeted by a bustling city. You notice that most people appear panicked, constantly checking the large clocks or personal watches. As you venture further into the city, you are greeted by three individuals who invite you to join them as a companion.

Do you choose Vigil, the architect, who appears uncomfortable in this bustling city despite having designed much of it?

Do you choose Zee, who is half asleep and carrying an alarm clock alongside them?

Or do you choose Hope, who seems popular among the citizens who pass by?
